Anthony Otyehel playing the Grand Piano

Anthony Otyehel has been playing music in his pastime since the age of five.  The piano has been his instrument of choice and many of his compositions have been written on the piano. He also has a love of synthesizers with an eclectic taste in music covering electronic music, jazz, soul, blues and rock.

He is self-taught and though he had a few early music lessons, plays predominantly by ear. He started composing at home in his teens and was recruited to synth pop band Vizual Ettiquette providing rythmic sequencing, drum programming and melodic lead lines.

Shortly afterwards he auditioned as keyboard player for a soul, jazz, funk, rock outfit that would become Sloan Square East, forming a long writing partnership with professional musician Darren Dutson Bromley. After some years playing the gig circuit in and around Bradford and West Yorkshire, coming runners up in Battle of the Bands and playing venues such as St. Georges Hall and Queen’s Hall in Bradford in the late 80’s, Sloan Square East disbanded.

The band members went their separate ways. Anthony Otyehel went to University as a mature student and moved to London afterwards. Over the years Anthony Otyehel and Darren Dutson Bromley stayed in touch and regularly jammed, writing new tunes whenever they got together.

In more recent years they have formed DDB|TO and have been recording and writing music that is mainly influenced by Jazz, with some soul and ambient overtones. You can view and listen to them at www.ddbto.com
